Steampunk Shoulder Piece by MatthewSilva Steampunk Shoulder Piece by MatthewSilva
This is a Steampunk Shoulder piece made by myself.
The piece was sculpted from WED clay, molded and then cast in fiberglass. Process time for this piece before painting was about 3-4 days of work

Painting and weathering time took 1 day

Main piece is fiberglass, accouterments are mixed media ranging from pourable urethane, stamped metal pieces, and glass.

This piece is (as in picture) fully wearable.

Thanks for looking!

This might be the most creative piece of armor I've ever seen in DA, if not period.

Although the lantern looks a bit akward, I love this piece very much. I'd love to have it, but considering that it's not for sale, nor that I have any money...

Might just have to make something similar myself.

Love it, how did you make the boar's head? Is that molded fiberglass as well?

It's actually a wolf's head ^_^
It was sculpted in castaline and molded in a tin cure silicone. The casting is a pour in 2 part resin plasic made by smoothon. =D

That's awesome! How did you get it to light up? Is it just a battery powered LED?

LED lights and some diffusion paper to disperse the light

Very nice! I love the shape. Is the main body of it all fiberglass?
Would you be so kind as to give me some clue about how you worked the fiberglass? Where do you get it ..what form does it come in? How does it cure? ETC!!

Yes. The whole body is fiberglass. Fiberglass comes in two parts, you have your liquid resin, and then you have your fiberglass matte (tiny strands of fiberglass woven and pressed into a paper like sheet). You soak the sheets in the resin and place them in the mold, making sure to disperse any air bubbles. its cures in a matter of an hour or so. if you want to find fiberglass just google for a local dealer. hope that was helpful!
